Site-specific sound and installation, 3D-printed gecko, UV light, 2025
“The species ‘Hemidactylus turcicus’ (Mediterranean House Gecko), found in the Göztepe area of Bozcaada, is a common species that can be observed across suitable habitats in Çanakkale, often seen on house walls at night. The main threats to this species are habitat destruction. Additionally, geckos are often collected illegally and sold in pet shops. Although they are beneficial to humans as they feed on flies, moths, spiders, and their larvae, they are unfortunately often killed when seen, despite their ecological role. Due to their thin skin, their heart and internal organs can be seen under light.”

Among the Stones features 3D-printed geckos and gecko fragments placed between and atop rocks in ways that make them visible under UV light or in the dark. Hidden among the stones, the geckos invite the viewer into an exploratory encounter, simulating the field experience of searching for reptiles beneath rocks during a site visit with biologists. This artistic gesture aims to foster awareness through close observation and careful attention.
The installation references practices of nature observation while drawing attention to the fragility of animal habitats. The sound composition in the background merges actual gecko vocalizations with the mechanical sounds of a 3D printer, creating a manipulated auditory landscape.
